04/29/08
Construction plans are nearing completion. Right-of-way acquisition is progressing and relocation of existing utilities is being coordinated with the utility companies in the project area. Construction of the project is planned to begin this October on the widened portion of the bridge so traffic will not be significantly affected until 2009.

To facilitate the beginning of this project, November 17 has tentatively been set as the closure date for the Six Span boat landing. Once closed, no boats will be able to launch or be recovered from the landing.

A preconstruction meeting for the project was held on December 9, 2008. The general contractor, Northern Indiana Construction, indicated that right-of-way clearing would begin on December 10th. This will consist mainly of tree and stump removal. Construction of the bridge is scheduled to begin on January 5, 2009 depending on the weather and ice on the river.

Letters have been sent to property owners who are most likely to lose their homes. The letters are Notice of Intent letters and simply alert property owners that the County expects to purchase their property at a later date, and describes the relocation assistance they can expect and notifies them that a County hired appraiser will be making contact with them in the near future to begin the buying process.
April 2008
Purchase of homes required for the project is now complete. Vacated homes are being removed by County forces to clear the right-of-way ahead of the construction project. Purchase of land (not involving entire homes) is on-going and will continue through June.
